Dr. David K. Avram is a board certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained cosmetic and laser surgeon in private practice in Brooklyn Heights and the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He practices general and cosmetic dermatology with a focus on Mohs Micrographic surgery for curing non-Melanoma skin cancers and lasers to treat a variety of cosmetic and medical skin conditions. Dr. Avram is an assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate and was previously the Co-Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn where he was responsible for dermatology resident training and education.
After graduating cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Avram earned his medical degree the Milton Hershey College of Medicine at Pennsylvania State University. He completed dermatology residency training at Harvard Medical School where he had the honor of serving as Chief resident. In addition, Dr. Avram completed a fellowship in cosmetic, laser and dermatological surgery in San Diego, CA. During his fellowship he focused on Mohs surgery, cutting-edge laser research and perfecting a variety of cosmetic procedures. He has performed more than 2,000 cases of Mohs surgery and regularly trains his own fellows in mastering this highly specialized technique that is the treatment of choice for curing difficult skin cancers.
Dr. Avram has trained under the guidance of some of the top laser surgeons in the world at both Harvard and during his fellowship. As a result, Dr. Avram was involved in the first cutting edge peer reviewed studies involving Thermage for skin tightening as well as lasers in the use of curing acne and preventing acne scars. As an expert in laser technology, Dr. Avram’s private practice offers patients the latest dermatological advancements with a wide variety of high-technology therapies including Fraxel, Pulse-Dye Laser, and Thermage to treat many issues such as blood vessels, brown spots, scars, fine lines and wrinkles and chronic acne. Dr. Avram also has vast experience in treating general dermatological conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer and pediatric dermatology.
Dr. Avram is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Fellow of the American Society of Mohs Surgeons and a Member of American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has lectured at numerous dermatology meetings.
